We are Snowboarding

WAS works with the best and most influential snowboarders within the industry. WAS also is working with any snowboarder willing to embrace the spirit of the group. The first and foremost interest to WAS is snowboarding.

Taking what “WAS,” and making “What will be” is the mission statement for this young and ambitious group of snowboarders. With major TV media channels and network organizations, WAS aims to set a path for event organization that supports the interests of the competitions, the athletes, and the future of the sport. WAS is a departure from the old way of operating that cuts the puppet strings of control and puts the decision making into the hands of the athletes that make the sport breathe.

What once WAS run by politics and the interest of big sponsors and TV will be the choice and the decision of the snowboarders.

What WAS money-hungry desk jockeys controlling the fun of snowboarding will be the choice and the decision of the snowboarders.

What WAS a saturated market for snowboarding events will be a well-organized and structured system that will be the choice and the decision of the snowboarders

The way snowboarding is being run now is unacceptable. The sport of snowboarding is losing the voice of its most valuable and honest opinion leaders….the riders.

This movement exists to unite the riders. Together, the riders will help motivate change and take back the sport of snowboarding. Return the control to the riders for the future benefit of all who that it truly means something to.

US OPEN

Once I got into Stratton Vermont I went strait to registration to pick up my bib and backpack that they always give you then headed to the house I was staying at. I was staying with the Tierney family and my coach. That night I had to dry off all my cloths in my bag because my bag was completely soaked from sitting out in the rain all day. The next day was the first day of practice where so we woke up all early to get ready and found out that practice was cancelled due to an ice storm that knocked out the power for the whole mtn. So after we got that news everyone went back to bed and watched some movies for the rest of the day. The next day we woke up early again to find it sunny and sick outside! Today was the day of pre quals so I was very excited to ride. Once we got to the pipe we had an hour to warm up and feel the pipe out. The pipe was probably the iciest pipe I have ever ridden in my life! So during practice I just did strait airs because I was to scared to spin. Once the contest started I knew that I had to do more then strait airs so I dropped in and did a mellow run of back 5 to front 7 to cab 7 to front 9 with this run it qualified me into the semis in 3rd place which I was stoked about.

The next day I woke up and it was just pouring rain out so I decided not to snowboarded because there was a stream running down the middle of the pipe so it was closed. So that day we did a lot of hanging out and watching movies because there’s not much to do in Vermont. The next day we got up and the weather was looking better then the day before. It was a little overcast and not raining so I was excited to ride! We got to the pipe and no one was riding it again because it was a sheet of ice. So I just did a bunch of strait airs to try and get use to it. Later that day we headed to the waffle house, which is, the best part of Vermont, he waffles there are just amazing!

On Friday was the day of semis and when I woke up it was really snowy and windy so people weren’t so stoked on riding. From about 8-11 the women were up and it didn’t look like they were having too much fun! It was really foggy, rainy, and windy which are pretty challenging conditions. Before we got to practice there was a 2-hour delay for the girls because you couldn’t see the pipe. Once the fog burned off and they finished the girls we got to practice. During our practice it was pouring out so a few of the riders were riding in trash bags to try and stay dry. Once it came to my run I put down a mellow first run because o a lot of people were falling because it was so soft and there were huge holes in the wall. My first run I started with a back 9 to a front 7 to cab 7 to front 9 that I stomped. On my second run I started with a back 9 to front 7 to cab ten that I fell on because I got bucked into the flat bottom. With my first run it put me in 9th in my heat and I think 15th over all at the US OPEN, which I was kind of stoked about. After the open I went home to pack up my bags because I wanted to get home as soon as possible because I was tired of the rain. When I got into Denver it was 65 degrees and sunny and I have never been so excited to be back in Colorado.

Travel Day from Hell

After we packed up our bags from our hotel room we headed out to the Mammoth airport which is as big as your living room. They only have about 5 people that work there and they do everything from give you your boarding pass to load the bags on the plane. After I checked in the; the worst travel day of my life started. Once we bordered the plane we sat on the runway for about an hour or so while they loaded the bags and got the plane prepared. Once in the air it was only a 30min flight to San Francisco. Once in San Fran we had to go to the other side of the airport. Which entailed walking out of security taking a tram and going back through security where I had to go through secondary questioning. In secondary questioning they sat me down next to my coach and asked us a bunch of questions about where were going, what were doing, and what were bring. The entire time they were doing this, my coach and I were arguing with the guys about how they profile people. And the only reason they picked my coach and I was because we had long hair and everyone else in line was wearing business suits. After TSA went trough everything on my person they finally let us go.

Once at the gate I got some food and charged up my phone and computer so I could use them on the plane. Once on the plane all I could hear was a crying baby and I was wishing I didn’t have to sit near that baby. But I happen to have a seat right next to that crying baby with her angry mother. Once I was sitting next to that baby it wouldn’t stop crying so the mother was screaming at the baby and shaking it, and at that point I knew it was going to be a long flight to Philly. When I was sitting there hating life I popped 3 Tylenol PM to try and fall asleep. About an hour later I finally fell asleep for about 20 mins until the mother blasted me in the face with hand sanitizer that woke me right up. And from that moment on I sat there awake while a baby kicked me the entire 6 hour flight.

After we arrived in Philly we had an hour lay over before we got on plane to Albany NY. Once we got to the gate the lady told us that our flight was delayed 5 hours which is a long time to be sitting in a air port for. During these 5 hours everyone just slept on the floor, watched movies and made a lot of noise for some reason? Once we got on the plane they said the bathroom was broken so they had everyone get off the plane and bored a new one. Once on the new plane we finally got to leave for Albany. In Albany we got our bags which were completely soaked from the heavy rain on the east coast and got in a car to head to Stratton Vermont.

Mammoth Grand Prix

So this week I was in Mammoth for the Grand Prix. It was definitely a good time! The week started out with a nice sunny day of pipe riding. During the first day of practice I worked on getting use to the pipe by doing strait airs and some 5’s. By the afternoon I was working on some new combos in the pipe. After practice I met up with my friend Trevor Jacob a Mammoth local to go eat dinner. He picked me up from the place where I was staying and in his car was a PA system so we drove around mammoth playing with it. The next day a storm came in and the weather changed real fast. It went from sunny and sick to super windy and snow. Ski patrol reported 60mph winds at the top, so we chilled out at our place and had a movie day. The Next day we woke up and there was about of foot and a half of fresh snow on the ground so we decided to go ride pow which was great. They day of the contest was up and the weather was terrible again, it was super windy and snow like the day before.

They postponed the contest for two day because of this. During the contest day it was sunny and sick and everyone was excited to ride. On my first run of the contest I dropped in doing a big backside 9 to a front 7 to a cab 10. On my cab 10 I popped a little to hard and landed really flat and lost all my speed. After that I was pretty upset and took a few free ride runs to calm me down. My next run I dropped in did a big backside 9 to a front 7 to a cab 7 instead to a front 9 which I lost my edge and slide out. After that I was super pissed because if I landed that run I would have been in finals. I got 17th place and the kid who got 16th place beat me by .2. and for the rest of the day I was bumming.

After the contest was over we had to run back to the hotel to pack up because we had to catch a flight to Vermont for the US Open.

That's the Third Story of the Mammoth Lodge.... They have soooo much snow!!

About to go ride some mammoth pow!
